Artists at Rising Tide
Alissa Davies
Welcome to our home!
As you explore the space, you'll notice that much of the artwork on the walls has been created by local artists—dear family friends whose work is inspired by the stunning landscapes and rich cultural history of the Blue Hill Peninsula. Each piece reflects the beauty of this area and the vibrant creativity that thrives here.
Among the artists featured in our home are Peter Diemond and Anne Emerson, whose landscapes capture the essence of Maine’s coastline, and Josephine (Josie) Chase, known for her vivid, energetic interpretations of the natural world, and this area. Josie is also a talented potter and has a year-round nearby studio on Cape Rosier.
Hanna Burr, Alissa Davies, and Jody Burr bring contemporary, abstract perspectives, also inspired by the natural world. These artists are integral to the artistic community here, and we’re proud to share their talents with you. If you love any of this work and are interested in seeing more or purchasing any pieces, let us know and we will connect you with the artists themselves!

Regional Authors
In addition to the artwork, our collection of books highlights the history, literature, and agricultural heritage of the region. Among the books, you'll find works by Helen and Scott Nearing, who were pioneers of the back-to-the-land movement and spent many years living and homesteading in this area. Their writings on sustainable living continue to inspire generations of farmers and environmental advocates. We also feature books by Elliot Coleman, a leader in organic farming, whose expertise has influenced the farming community on the Blue Hill Peninsula and beyond. The Goodlife Center (Nearings) and Four Seasons Farm (Coleman) are a must see in the area!
You will also find books about the Native American history of this land, with a special focus on Walker Pond, a sacred site for the Wabanaki people. These works provide valuable insights into the deep, ongoing connection between the region’s indigenous people and the land they’ve nurtured for thousands of years.
You’ll also find a collection of books by E.B. White, whose beloved writing about life in Maine has captured the hearts of readers worldwide. His stories, including Charlotte’s Web and Stuart Little, reflect the timeless charm of rural New England and offer a glimpse into the life of a writer deeply connected to this place.
For families with children, the work of Robert McCloskey are a must read! Known for his classic children’s books such as Make Way for Ducklings, One Morning in Maine, and Blueberries for Sal, McCloskey’s illustrations capture the essence of life on the Maine coast. When you visit South Brooksville, see if you can spot some of the very places he illustrated in the book One Morning In Maine!
As you browse the art and books, we hope you’ll feel a deeper connection to this region—its people, its history, and its natural beauty. Whether you’re exploring the world of local artists, the legacy of the Nearings, or the timeless charm of McCloskey’s illustrations, these works offer a window into the soul of the Blue Hill Peninsula.
